Marvel's Black Panther CANCELED by EA

IGN reports that Electronic Arts is canceling Black Panther and closing Cliffhanger Games.

EA Entertainment president Laura Miele wrote to staff that these changes, along with other cancellations and layoffs, are meant to "sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities."


EA is laying off mobile and central team members in addition to closing Cliffhanger and canceling Black Panther. EA declined to provide a number of affected individuals. IGN believes this wave's affected personnel are fewer than Respawn and EA's Fan Care teams' 300 cuts last month, but cannot confirm.

"These decisions are hard," wrote Miele. They affect people we've worked, learned from, and shared real moments!" We are supporting them by finding opportunities within EA, where we have helped people land new roles."

As with previous layoffs, EA is trying to place affected employees in other roles. This placement program has been used with each round of layoffs in recent years, despite constant team cuts likely due to EA seemingly drastically increasing headcount on other teams. EA had 800 more employees in March than in 2024, according to Game File.
